The best Airbnb stays in Australia

We audibly gasped when we saw this one. Created by an Aussie startup who are on a mission to reimagine homes with eco-friendly and customisable designs, OM1-3 does not fall short on luxury. It sleeps four (perfect for two couples) and is complete with incredible lush views, an outdoor tub, a fireplace and access to a shared pool. Leave your shoes at the door, this is a no-shoe home.

Fancy a little stargazing at night? This tiny eco home in the coastal town of Victor Harbor is tucked on a hillside with far reaching views of Hindmarsh River and McCracken Hill. Unwind in peace in the outdoor tub before nestling in for a movie night with the makeshift cinema. Finish the night in front of the fireplace while checking out some of the scenery with the vintage telescope. Bliss!

Measuring just 7.5m long, 2.5m wide and 4.2m high, what it lacks in size, makes up for tenfold in charm. This teeny tiny home is fitted with a Queen-sized mezzanine sleeping area, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom (watch for that compost toilet…) and couch. But the main drawcard is that sunny deck that looks into what seems like endless nature.

Come for the outdoor bath, stay for literally everything else. This charming cottage (which is actually a shipping container!) is completely off-grid making it the perfect spot to really disconnect from the world. Enjoy stunning views from the deck looking out onto the Somerset region with a glass of wine in one hand and a book in the other.

Consider yourself a bit of a wildlife buff? Pack a pair of binoculars and spend your days wild bird and sheep-watching from the large deck of this rustic cabin. You won’t find any WiFi so take this as your sign to unplug and unwind while exploring the gorgeous property.

This beautiful spot tucked amongst a 5 acre rural block is a roughly 30 minute drive from Darwin. You’ll fine peace and tranquility in the tropical garden before retreating back into the home to kick back on the veranda complete with BBQ facilities and a spa.

Two words: magnesium pool. Heated all year round, this stunning plunge pool is one of the many drawcards to this luxury home. Think fireplace, gorgeous interiors, outdoor dining and spectacular views. With two Queen-sized bedrooms, you’ll have the space to stretch out or enough room to invite a couple of friends.

This gorgeously designed architectural-hut (just look at that slanted roof) is built for total isolation. No expense has been spared from the idyllic location, open-plan living, bath tub, and wooden walls that extend to the ceiling. Enjoy the peace and quiet or turn it into a romantic getaway for two.

Want nestled? Looking for cosy? Partial to a huge window seat, a good book and a cup of tea? This chic cabin will tick all of your boxes. Stoke up the fire and look out at the untouched bushland creeping onto your doorstep, visit the local Blackheath bric-a-brac-style shops and head for a gentle – or vigorous – ramble with truly incredible views out over the Blue Mountains.
Where is Airbnb most popular in Australia?
While you may think idyllic getaways and beach getaways would reign supreme in Australia, when it comes to Airbnb listings, the most popular are those in the city centre. Unsurprisingly, the major cities of Sydney and Melbourne have their fair share of short term accommodations. When most international travellers think of Australia, these are probably two of the most popular spots to stay in so it’s only fitting that here’s where you’ll find most Airbnb properties.
What are the different types of Airbnb stays?
When selecting an Airbnb that’s right for you, you’re given the choice of different types of accommodation. These include:
- Entire place – As the name suggests, you get the place all to yourself. You may not even meet your Airbnb host so it’s the perfect option if you prefer privacy and like to make yourself at home.
- Private room – These are rooms that sit within a larger home or property. Your private room will be one room with a closed door and sometimes an ensuite bathroom. The other parts of the home including the kitchen, living and garden spaces are all shared. Depending on the size of the property, these can be shared with other Airbnb guests or the host.
- Shared room – Ideal for those on a tight budget, a shared room is just that. A room that you share with another person.
Airbnb also offers a whole range of weird and wonderful homes including tiny cabins, mansions, castles, vineyards and even whole islands.
