These are the hair trends for 2024

It’s low maintenance meets luxe.

Let’s not fool ourselves – we’re in a cost of living crisis and some of our luxuries have fallen by the wayside. Gone are the days – for the moment – of ostentatious spending and frivolous pursuits.

But one thing remains eternally true, we’ll never forget our manes. So we decided to sit down with Jaye Edwards, of EdwardsAndCo, to discuss how we can make the most of our tangles, while we feel the wallet pinch, and what hair trends we can expect in the year ahead. Here’s what he had to say when looking into his (hairy?) crystal ball:

How are you seeing the financial pressures and hair care colliding?

JE: We’re seeing a lot more requests for expensive, shiny, and glassy brunettes. Since the cost of living crisis, this has become quite popular as its low maintenance and allows clients to get the most out of their colour with greater longevity between salon services.

What trends do you predict this year?

JE: Nude blonde started creeping back in 2023 and will make a strong comeback in 2024, it’s a warm neutral blonde that the blonde girls can opt for to achieve a natural, lived-in look.

Regarding cuts, the long bob is a cut that will suit all hair textures and faces, it’s a fun little transformation for the new year. I love this style in particular because of the additional face framing, this is optional but makes hair more dimensional. I’m predicting 2024 is all about short hair!

The butterfly cut was massive in 2023 but I don’t see it going anywhere this year. The butterfly cut works with all hair types, it is a combination of short and long layers to give off a butterfly wing look whilst creating shape around your face.

On par with the 90s supermodel blow out trend, the butterfly cut is the next big thing. It is a great way to create an illusion of fuller hair without sacrificing too much length.

Are there any trends you hope die out in 2024?

JE: We’re going to see a decline in the Scandi hairline trend (lightening of the baby hairs and surrounding forehead hairs specifically) due to the damage that it can cause if not done properly. I’ve never been a fan as you’re so limited on who you can do. Although, I will say if done correctly, it can be beautiful.

I think we will move away from the Cherry Cola and red colours, moving towards a more natural, copper look. A lot of clients just want to enhance what they have naturally.

Where do you draw inspiration from when looking at trends/new season looks?

JE: I get a lot of inspiration from nature, I love seeing the texture and shades that nature creates seasonally.

In terms of products and salon retail, are you seeing any trends in salon from clients?

JE: Clients are becoming more conscious about the health of their hair, so we’re seeing a lot more sales in hair masks, and good quality shampoos and conditioners – it’s important to tell our clients to take care of their hair to keep that salon quality hair up to fresh from home.

What are some looks you particularly loved at the Grammys?

JE: Paris Jackson’s hair at the Grammys is on par with EdwardsAndCo’s signature style, beachy waves, and lived in sandy blonde. Her look is living proof of the side part’s resurgence, and I’m here for it!

This is a really chic and low maintenance colour, I expect to see my blonde clients transition to a more sandy lived-in blonde as we near the end of summer. It will grow out seamlessly, so you’ll get the most out of your salon visit

To recreate this look at home I would go in with the O&M Surf Bomb which contains sea salt, to get that effortless, sexy tousled look before styling with a curling wand. Using a sea salt mist will also help give you some lift at your side part

Claudia Sulewksi’s Grammys hair is another side part style that I am loving.

The wet hair look is such a red carpet hairstyle, that you could recreate at home with a good hair pomade. I love the O&M Pomade Styling Tub which is great for that slick, wet and polished look Claudia is rocking.

To get this look, I’d start by creating that side part, warming some pomade into the hair and shaping it across the face, imitating the wet style. Finishing by securing the hair into a bun and tidying up any loose strands with some more pomade and slicking it neatly.

Her colour is dimensional, and I love the lighter strands that frame the face. The wet blonde hair look creates a stunning defined shine.
