Selena Gomez sets the record straight

No, Selena Gomez hasn’t had plastic surgery

The 'Only Murders In The Building' star clapped back to a TikTok video that suggested she'd had extensive plastic surgery

To those speculating about the changing appearance of her face, Selena Gomez has a few choice words for you.

Commenting on plastic surgeon physician assistant Marissa Barrionuevo’s TikTok video from 2023, which included a series of side-by-side photos of the actor from over the years, Selena wrote, “Honestly I hate this. I was on stripes because of flare up,” she penned, referring to being prescribed a steroid by her doctor. “I have Botox. That’s it. Leave me alone.”

Soon after the Only Murders In The Building actor commented on the post, Marissa apologised for any hurt she may have caused. “I adore you. I really do mean the best, so I apologise if this rubbed you the wrong way in any way whatsoever,” she said.

Marissa captioned the footage, “Although I always try to lead with grace and mindfulness, I am sorry this upset you (and I understand why it did). I decided to stop making videos like this last year because of the negative impact it can cause. It was never my intention. ily (I love you) I hope we

can move past this and be besties.”

Selena has been the subject of harried debate about her appearance of late, most notably since she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder, lupus, in 2013. The condition damaged her kidneys, and the star ultimately needed a kidney transplant. Fortunately, in 2017, she found a living organ donor: her friend (and fellow actor) Francia Raisa.

In January 2024, Selena shared a series of Instagram stories in which she opened up about reaching a point of acceptance – and appreciation – with her body. She shared a photo of herself in a zebra print bikini from 2013, which she captioned, “Today I realised I will never look like this again…”

She then followed up the picture with a paparazzi bikini shot of her from January 2023, which she captioned, “I’m not perfect, but I am proud to be who I am… Sometimes I forget it’s ok to be me.”
