Picture this: you joined a dating app thinking you’d find true love quickly, but recently, your profile has been a sea of unanswered messages, slow responders and walking red flags. You’re starting to feel the burnout and are questioning if this was all really worth it. Sound familiar? Of course it does, because in a recent study, 44% of Hinge users said that responsiveness was their biggest challenge to securing a date. At least you’re not alone.
But should you just accept burnout as a necessary evil in online dating? Well, thanks to Hinge, you may not have to. In response to the challenges of low responsiveness, Hinge is launching a new feature called ‘Your Turn Limits’. And it’s all about prioritising quality over quantity.

Your Turn Limits allows users to focus on their current connections by giving those with too many unanswered messages the choice to either reply to or end a conversation before they can reply others and receive additional likes.
“We want every dater on Hinge to feel joyful and hopeful while connecting with others. With Your Turn Limits, we’re directly addressing the frustration of unanswered messages,” says Justin McLeod, Founder and CEO of Hinge. “Your next relationship could be just a message away, so we’re helping users gain momentum with going on their next great date.”
The idea is to limit users’ scope so they can narrow their focus and respond to their existing matches more quickly. The evidence suggests that this will see better results, with Hinge matches where both parties respond to each other within 24 hours being 72% more likely to result in a date, according to the recent study.
Furthermore, 76% of Hinge users consider message consistency a good indicator of how interested their match is. Your Turn Limits should increase message consistency. And as a heads up, don’t be afraid to double text, as the data also shows that just 13% of online daters consider it an ick.
But will Your Turn Limits actually work? Testing phases suggest they will, with a survey finding that the feature increased responsiveness on by 20%. Almost half of users also found that the feature increased their ability to focus on quality matches, while 45% said it helped them be more thoughtful about who they match with.
So, Your Turn Limits could be the solution to all your online dating woes. The only way to find out is to try it.
