Do you ever feel like you hit an energy slump right before you’re about to start a workout?
We’ve all been there, you know you need to get the exercise in and that it will help boost your energy, but man, sometimes overcoming that bump and actually getting it done can feel impossible.
In fact, it’s such a common conundrum that award-winning fitness instructor and personal trainer Corinne Blight says one of the most common questions she’s asked is how she keeps going through workouts, even when she didn’t feel like starting.
Here she shares her seven easy tips for boosting your energy pre and during your workout so you can get that good energy in.
Pre-Workout
- Turn Up The Music (Loud!)
There’s no denying that music has a mood-changing power. To really ramp up your energy pre-workout, play your favourite ‘pump up tunes’ (preferably those over 120 bpm) and play them loud! Need music inspiration? Check out this energy boosting playlist from my studio Limitless Fitness and Nutrition.
- Fuel Your Body Right
Your pre-workout nutrition is an energy game changer! Think about adding some fast-releasing carbohydrates to give you an energy boost including dates with nut butter, rice cakes with honey or peanut butter and banana for a quick surge in energy.
Remember too, if you’re dehydrated, you won’t perform at your best, so ensure you’ve had enough water before you start.

- On Point Activewear
As if you needed another reason to go buy yourself a pair of new gym tights. Your activewear can energise you – a lot. The biggest energy boosts come from wearing activewear that makes you feel strong, comfortable, and supported.
For me, the brighter the colour, the more energised I feel. Find what works for you and wear it for your workout and rock it. Our go to is always bright and bold prints, colour and comfort.
During Your Workout
- Group Fitness Is Energy MAGIC
Have you ever noticed how much easier it feels to train when you’re with a group, rather than alone?
The best energy you’ll find for a workout is in a group setting – whether that’s a group fitness class in a gym or online, running with a group or doing reformer Pilates in a studio. Find a group class that feels right for you and give it a crack. T
The best part? You have an instructor bringing the energy, so you can just turn up and let the good energy vibes flow!
- Keep Your Goals Front And Centre
There’s nothing more motivating and energising than when you have a clear goal you’re working towards.
Whether it’s to achieve 10 or even one unassisted chin-ups at the gym, or to run 10km without stopping, keep this goal front of mind during your workouts (*hint,* save your goal as your phone lock screen so you always see it).
When things start to feel hard during your class or workout, reminding yourself of your goal will give you an extra energy boost when you need it most.
- Mix Up Your Training
One of the greatest energy zappers is doing the same thing every single time you work out. To keep your energy high, mix up your workouts.
One day, you might run, the next, you might join a group fitness class, after that you might enjoy a slower walk or Pilates. Mixing up the pace and style of your workout days keeps you engaged, inspired, and energised.

- Do What You Actually LOVE
When you do what you love, everything just feels easier.
Find what type of fitness feels good for you. It could be group classes, walking, Pilates, HIIT, strength training, running, dancing, or swimming (or something else). When you find something that feels good, the endorphins released from your workout will be even greater (often because you work harder when you’re enjoying yourself), leading to the best energy boost imaginable.
