P.E Nation is just about everywhere you look. Donned by women, teens, men – the look is as ubiquitous in the gym as it is in the street.
This year at Australian Fashion Week, Pip Edwards, creative director and co-founder of P.E Nation, unveiled a new look for her brand – namely it’s ‘Re/Creation’ collection. And a near-standing ovation ensued.
Developed around the idea of re-birth, it was something to behold. Pastels, paired back silhouettes, strong shoulders, sheer fabric and subtle layering. The clothes edge between function and form, dancing a line that athleisure has yet seen. Gone are the days of simply spray painting on lycra leggings to venture from the gym to the shops, and here are the days of nuanced gym-cum-street gear, transient and flexible. Standing easily in two territories, blending the two.
40 models paced a 40-metre long runway in front of around 600 guests. Music blared, cameras were poised, models trundled geometric lines, and yet the clothes themselves were muted and a step-change from their louder, more branded predecessors.
Edwards explained that RE/CREATION is about detail, that it’s “sophisticated, the quality of fabrication and finish is elevated, and the silhouettes are easy, designed to be more versatile within every wardrobe.”
Moreover it’s about evolution. Life changes, and so has P.E Nation. The look, the projection is now about basics and ultimately the modern woman stepping into a new era. And speaking for herself.
Here below some some of the best looks from the P.E Nation runway on day two of Australian Fashion Week.
