Beat the winter chill with these upper body exercises designed to get you moving and keep you strong

We know, we know—winter makes you want to curl up on the couch with a blanket, a hot drink, and a marathon of movies. Nothing wrong with that!

But to avoid an all-or-nothing mindset, it’s important to adjust your workouts to accommodate these weather and lifestyle changes too.That doesn’t mean doing more. In fact for me it means quicker, engaging, high intensity workouts that bring on the heat–think boxing combos and burpees!

In my business, we don’t just change with the weather. We get that women’s bodies are always changing, and it’s important to have workout options that adapt to you. Whether you’re looking to power through one 10-minute session or break it up into two 5-minute bursts, these exercises will warm you up, tone your muscles, and still leave you time for that cosy binge watch.

Why upper body strength matters

Staying active is key to boosting your mood and keeping the winter blues at bay. A strong upper body in particular helps combat poor posture from all that extra sitting in winter, and helps you tackle everyday tasks like a boss.

We work out our lower body more in day-to-day activities such as walking and going up stairs, so it’s vital for women to train their upper body if we also want to maintain bone strength and muscle mass i.e. shape, that’s naturally lost with age.

Ready to dive in? We’ve got a workout split into two power-packed levels. You can either do them back-to-back for a full 10-minute session or split them into two quick 5-minuteworkouts. Either way, these exercises will build strength and keep you toasty all winter long.
