I’m going to preface this article with a little something about me. A mum to an energetic one-year-old, postpartum hair loss hit me hard once my baby reached about 3 months, and is still going strong. So it’s safe to say, this girl KNOWS A THING ABOUT FLYAWAYS.
There they are, staring at me in the mirror, every morning: those annoying little baby hairs that won’t be tamed. They stick up in awkward places, and nothing I do seems to keep them in place. Feel me?
So far in my styling journey I’ve tried a bunch of different things – oil sprays (there go my freshly cleaned roots), the Slick Stick hair wand (which I absolutely LOVE for up-dos but not quite for when I want my hair down), hair straighteners (sorry hair), and the occasional hairspray spritz (ugh, I know). So when Dyson introduced their new Flyaway attachment, it’s safe to say I was intrigued.
Claiming to be the ultimate solution to smooth stray strands without extreme heat, the attachment harnesses – what Dyson’s researchers say is called – the Coanda effect, that, using air flow, attracts and lifts longer hairs to the front, while pushing flyaways through the tress and out of sight.
The piece looks like a roller that doesn’t come all the way around, and can be attached to your Dyson dryer in the same way the standard accessories do.
“Traditionally, this skilled technique involves the stylist using a round brush to section and manage the hair, whilst directing airflow from the dryer to push the flyaways into the style and out of sight,” explains Emma Sheldon, Dyson Hair Care Category Director. “We set out to find a way to innovate a way to mechanise this method for the everyday styler. The new Dyson Supersonic™ Flyaway attachment harnesses the phenomenon of Coanda to smooth flyaways out of sight, without exposing the hair to extreme heat damage.”
