Saturday 8 March marks International Women’s Day 2025. First celebrated in 1928, this annual celebration highlights the achievement of women, addresses important issues, and looks to the future on how we can come together to uplift and support women of the future.
“As women we so often put our own needs last – when we intuitively know that taking care of ourselves first puts us in a much better place to show up for everyone else,” shares Lorna Jane Clarkson, founder of activewear brand Lorna Jane.
“If one woman can make a difference, then together we can change the world,” she says.
For Aussies, this is a day where many brands, companies and individuals will come together to amplify women’s stories, support the accomplishments of women and girls, and shine a spotlight on things like the gender pay gap, domestic violence, women in sports and more. Here, we’ve pulled together a roundup of events and initiatives in support of International Women’s Day in Australia in 2025.
What is the theme of International Women’s Day 2025?
This year, the theme is March Forward: For ALL Women and Girls. According to the UN Women Australia, the theme calls for action to “unlock equal rights, power and opportunities for all and a feminist future where no one is left behind.”
“Central to this vision is empowering the next generation – youth, particularly young women and adolescent girls – as catalysts for lasting change,” the UN Women Australia website states.
